How should an ecommerce seller use an SEO keyword planner?

Use an ecommerce keyword planner to form a shortlist of buyer questions, not to predict sales. Begin with one product phrase, inspect related Google search terms for the chosen locale, and separately review matching marketplace products. Keep the query, source, date, estimated metric, and product relevance in the same record so an AI summary can be checked against the underlying rows.

Does Google search volume measure Amazon demand? No. The Google estimate describes searches on Google for the selected locale and period; an Amazon product lookup returns marketplace listings, not a conversion of that estimate into Amazon searches or purchases. In our October 7 portable-blender test, the Google seed estimate was 18,100 monthly searches, while the separate Amazon sample contained a non-electric shaker bottle. Those observations answer different questions and must remain labeled separately.

What did a real Nexscope test show?

On October 7, 2026, a Nexscope production API test expanded portable blender for Google US English. It returned 10 keyword ideas; six were brand-led. The term portable blender had an estimated monthly volume of 18,100 and difficulty of 23 in that response. A separate Amazon US competitor lookup returned 10 first-page products, but its first row was a shaker bottle, not an electric blender.

Question Observed result What it does not establish
Are there related Google queries? 10 ideas, including six brand-led terms Amazon search demand or sales
Is the seed term active in Google US? Estimated volume 18,100; difficulty 23 A ranking or traffic forecast for your site
Are all returned Amazon products comparable? No; one shaker bottle appeared in the 10-row sample That the remaining rows are the full competitor set

Read the dated request and response analysis and its sanitized JSON record. This is one bounded API test, not a benchmark of every query or a claim that the browser tool produces the same report automatically. Credit usage was not captured in that test.

Which rows belong in a new seller’s keyword and competitor shortlist?

Use the returned values as screening inputs, then apply a human relevance check. The same October 7 response illustrates three different decisions:

Returned item Keep or separate? Why
portable blender Keep as a generic Google query to investigate Its 18,100 estimated Google US monthly searches are not an Amazon-demand estimate or sales forecast.
Five Ninja variants and one Aldi Ambiano term Separate as brand-led queries Six of the 10 returned ideas named existing brands; a new brand should not count all of that volume as addressable generic demand.
A YETI shaker bottle in the Amazon results Exclude from an electric-blender competitor set The returned product serves a different function even though it appeared in the 10-row sample.

Record the exact query, marketplace, result date, inclusion reason and excluded rows. The source response and complete rows let another researcher challenge this shortlist. A single sample does not establish which keyword or product will convert.

How do you turn the results into a useful plan?

  1. State the buyer and product. Record the category, variant, intended use, and market before typing a seed term.
  2. Separate branded from generic queries. In the test, six of 10 ideas named a brand. A new seller should not treat those estimates as demand they can automatically capture.
  3. Inspect product intent. Open marketplace results and remove items serving a different need. The shaker bottle in the observed sample would distort an electric-blender comparison.
  4. Keep source labels. Mark Google keyword volume as a provider estimate for Google US English; mark Amazon prices, ratings, and sales figures as separately returned marketplace fields.
  5. Choose a validation step. Compare the shortlist with your Search Console queries, advertising search terms, listing experiments, or actual product sales where available. Record what remains unknown.

The Amazon competitor keyword workflow explains when to add reverse-ASIN research after this first pass. Do not present Google search volume as Amazon search volume, and do not turn one API response into a profit forecast.

If the decision is whether an Amazon product idea is worth investigating at all, use the Amazon Keyword Researcher product-idea guide to compare demand and competition signals before building a listing. This is a different task from choosing SEO terms for an existing product.

Where does Nexscope fit?

The SEO Keyword Planner is the browser starting point for keyword ideas, available metrics, related product research, and an optional AI comparison. Check the live tool for its current access, fields, and credit estimate. Developers can inspect the separate keyword expansion and keyword metrics API references. The published test used those two operations plus Amazon competitor lookup; it did not measure a ranking, conversion, or sales uplift.
